FINE ART & ILLUSTRATION BY JEFF VOELTNER
Original graphite drawing on paper
Humpty Dumpty rests in peace,
Tucked in a nest where troubles cease,
Eggs cradle him, safe and sound,
Dreaming deep on feathered ground.
He smiles, content, no fear at all—
Yet through the shadows, watchful eyes call.
This is a framed graphite drawing/study for the creation of an oil painting in the 'Portraits of Wonderland' series - a series of paintings capturing the wonderful personalities of Lewis Carroll's marvelous book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.
From Jeff:
I loved the idea of giving Humpty a safe, camouflaged spot to hide away: tucked into a massive nest among giant eggs, he blends right in for a peaceful nap with his book. But of course, in Wonderland (or Looking-Glass land), nothing stays hidden for long. Sneaking in that watchful eyeball peering in—unseen by our dreaming egg-man—adds one of those little surprises I love to tuck into my work. And the closed book,"The Jabberwocky," is, of course, the very poem Humpty famously explains to Alice. It's a quiet wink to the lore.
