I created this piece as preparation and study for a larger oil painting that I am currently working on for my Portraits of Wonderland series—a series of paintings and drawings capturing the wonderful personalities of Lewis Carroll's two Alice books. My goal is to produce at least one piece for each and every character in the books, creating a collection of at least thirty-five pieces. For the Mouse, I wanted to give a little nod to his dramatic entry into the story, swept up in the pool of tears. Giving him a proper umbrella and a teacup pedestal felt like the perfect way to let him prepare for whatever might fall next
