Nestled in a sunny field, the Cheshire Cat plays with that slow, irresistible grin—luring us closer, inviting us to peer into his hat; and there we find but a hint of the very curious face of Wonderland's true star, Alice.

This is a framed graphite drawing/study for the creation of an oil painting in the 'Portraits of Wonderland' series - a series of paintings capturing the wonderful personalities of Lewis Carroll's marvelous book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.

From Jeff: Alice will be the final reveal in this series, but I wanted to weave in subtle clues and references to her throughout the earlier pieces—building anticipation like breadcrumbs through Wonderland. The Cheshire Cat feels like the perfect character to introduce her first: enigmatic, mischievous, and always one step ahead.

Hats appear in many of the portraits as a recurring motif, so this ties Alice into the series while keeping her mysterious and central. It's a nod to how the Cat often guides (or toys with) Alice in the book.
