FINE ART & ILLUSTRATION BY JEFF VOELTNER
Original graphite and acrylic drawing on paper
As the golden light of a Wonderland sunset bathes the swaying grass, the ever-energetic March Hare stands poised and ready—at your service! Dapper in his fine coat, crisp vest, and perfectly tied bow, he balances a gleaming silver tray overflowing with delicate teacups, steam curling invitingly into the evening air. But instead of the usual chaotic tea-party frenzy, he's paused, ears perked, eyes sparkling with mischievous delight as he fixes his gaze right on you—as if to say, "Shall we begin the madness... or savor the moment first?"
This is a framed graphite and acrylic drawing/study for the creation of an oil painting in the 'Portraits of Wonderland' series - a series of paintings capturing the wonderful personalities of Lewis Carroll's marvelous book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'.
From Jeff: The March Hare is pure, unfiltered Wonderland chaos—wild-eyed, unpredictable, the one who'd just as soon spill the tea as serve it with impeccable flair. For this portrait, I wanted to capture him in a rare, poised instant: not mid-rant or mid-spill, but elegantly at attention in a quiet field, tray in paw, dressed to impress, yet brimming with that barely-contained lunacy we all adore. It's the thrill of anticipation—what happens next could be the most splendidly unhinged tea service imaginable, or perhaps just the calm before the glorious storm. Either way, he's ready to pour... and so am I!
