Here is an original drawing I have completed of The March Hare character as a study for the Portraits of Wonderland series I am currently working on. This is actually the second of two drawings I have made so far for the March Hare, with likely yet one more to come. I consider this character as one that I need to just get right, and I'm looking forward to revealing the final painting for you... it's going to be a fun one!
The March Hare is one of my favorite characters from Wonderland, taking second place to none other than the Mad Hatter. For me, these two guys are what give Wonderland its life, for they are absolutely bonkers and seem to represent what so many people have come to expect when they think of the Wonderland story. For the Hare, I'm seeking to capture some of the Wonderland madness, as one might expect, but I'm also wanting to show him as an entertainer for the rest of the characters in the series.
When I picture what originally inspired me to start this project, I envisioned everyone we meet in the Wonderland stories, coming together for a day for a wonderfully large tea party; an opportunity and time when we get to meet each and every one of them all in place; and I see the March Hare as someone who is serving the guests in an entertaining way; for he is the nutty one of the bunch, so it seams fitting!
Here are some early sketches:

The drawing/study below represents our friend serving the party guests with tea. Though, it's not what I ultimately decided to go with for the final painting. The idea I settled on will come in time as I publish more artwork in this series; but I must say I'm tempted to hold out as long as possible on revealing what I landed on for this guy as it's quite funny!

This drawing is matted at 16"x20" and framed. If you are interested in this art, it's available! Otherwise, if you want to be updated on future artwork releases and information about what I am working on, please subscribe to my newsletter!
